Greendale Middle School Teacher Receives National Recognition
Erin McCarthy, an 8th grade Greendale Middle School teacher, was honored as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar.

GREENDALE, WI -- Erin McCarthy, an eighth grade social studies teacher from Greendale Middle School, was selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar.
McCarthy attended an NEH Landmarks of American History and Culture Workshop entitled “Women Making Change: Activism and Progressivism at the Turn of the Twentieth Century.” The one-week program was held at Wistariahurst Museum in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
The program brought together scholars and speakers to explore women from Holyoke’s industrial past
to demonstrate to teachers the many ways that stories of women from any town’s local history can be
better integrated into the national themes of American history being taught in K-12 classrooms. The
institute topic was one of twenty being offered around the country as part of the NEH Landmarks of
American History and Culture: Workshops for School Teachers program.
