Greendale Schools Denounce Two Racially-Insensitive Videos

GREENDALE, WI — School officials in Greendale have denounced two anonymous videos involving students saying racial slurs.
In one video shared with Greendale Patch by a concerned parent, a white student was filmed being held to the floor of a home. As he was smiling, the person who was holding him down urged him to say racially-insensitive statements. After a few seconds, you can hear laughing coming from off-camera. The video appeared to involve at least one person of high-school age.
According to a JSOnline report, a second video was also published on Youtube involving students at a Greendale elementary school. A group of Greendale students rallied outside the High School Monday afternoon to protest racism.

In a statement published by Greendale Superintendent Gary Kiltz on Feb. 22, he denounced both instances:
"Unfortunately, we have learned this week of two instances of students using inappropriate and racially charged language. While these matters did not take place on school grounds or during the school day, we have an obligation to make sure that our students feel physically and emotionally safe in our schools. Greendale Schools is committed to the safety and well-being of all students. District administration takes every student, family, and staff concern seriously and investigates all matters brought to our attention," he said. "The use of hate speech and harassment has no place in our schools or community."
