Greendale Schools Holding 3 Referendum Open Houses

GREENDALE, WI -- Greendale Schools is hosting three Open House events for the public to attend and hear more about the $33.8 Million Referendum. The events will be held on Thursday, Oct. 11, Tuesday, Oct. 16, and Wednesday, Oct. 24. All events will be held at Greendale High School, 6801 Southway, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The “Stop-in, Drop-in” events will allow interested parties to learn more about the proposed improvements, view project boards and videos, meet District administrators and visit with the District Referendum partners from Bray Architects, C.G. Schmidt, and Baird Public Finance to find out about the plans and costs, and tax impact on residents.

Residents interested in knowing how much Greendale Schools' $33.8 million referendum will cost them can now find out with the use of a new tax impact calculator located on the school district's website.

The tax calculator can be found here: www.greendale.k12.wi.us/referendum. District officials say that the tax impact of the proposed referendum is lower than originally projected, and is now estimated at 93 cents per $1000 of property value.

The Referendum

The Greendale Board of Education voted unanimously on August 6 to adopt a resolution to place a referendum question on the November 6 General Election ballot. The District will be asking the community to invest up to $33.8 million for district-wide improvements:

• Increasing School Safety and Security
• Improving Learning Environments
• Creating Flexible and Adaptable Workspaces
• Improving Building Efficiency and Sustainability

The referendum includes the construction and renovation of academic, cafeteria and multipurpose room spaces at Canterbury, College Park and Highland View Elementary schools, renovations to athletic, music and tech education areas at Greendale Middle School, and construction of music instructional spaces and an event lobby at Greendale High School.

Security improvements include secure main entrances and parking, traffic flow and site circulation improvements at the elementary schools, in addition to bringing all schools up to compliance with American Disability Act standards. Upgrades to multiple schools' climate-control systems are also included in the referendum.
