Increasing Activity to Reduce Future Costs

Representative Weininger (R-Green Bay), is spearheading legislation requiring daily activity for elementary and middle school children.  The legislation would increase children’s physical activity to reduce future obesity related healthcare costs.

According to Wisconsin’s Health and Human Services Department (DHS) 1 in 4 adults in Wisconsin are considered obese, costing the state $3.1 billion dollars each year.

The legislation could require up to 30 minutes of physical activity every day for elementary students and 45 minutes every day for middle school students.
