Man Caught Passed Out Drunk Inside Car With His Two Grandsons in Greendale

Suspect tried to drive away after a police officer woke him up.

A 53-year-old Milwaukee man is facing charges after he was caught passed out drunk in his car on the side of West Loomis Road with his two young grandchildren in the backseat.

Esteban Puente-Lopez was charged in Milwaukee County Circuit Court Friday with one count of second offense operating while intoxicated and one count of operating a motor vehicle after revocation of his license. If convicted, he faces up to two years in prison and $4,700 in fines.

On Oct. 8, a police officer spotted Lopez’s car parked on the side of the 6200 block of West Loomis Road in a no parking area with vomit outside the vehicle. After looking inside, he saw Lopez passed out across the front seats with his two young grandsons sitting in the back without safety belts on.

After being woken up, Lopez then tried to start the car and leave, but was unsuccessful. He admitted driving to the area before passing out.

He was convicted of OWI in 2002 and he was also convicted of having an open intoxicant in a car as a passenger in 2009.

Lopez is free on a $1,000 signature bond while awaiting trial.
