Man Dies on Inbound Flight to Milwaukee

Sheriff: Man with Greendale ties suffers apparent medical emergency on inbound flight to Milwaukee from Phoenix.

MILWAUKEE — Tragedy struck on board an inbound flight from Phoenix to Milwaukee this morning after a 36-year-old man suffered an apparent medical emergency while in transit, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's office.

Brendan D. Smith, age 36, of San Diego, was pronounced dead at 1:34 a.m. Monday. Sheriff’s detectives are conducting the death investigation, and made notification to his family in Greendale. A cause of death has not been specified by authorities.

Sheriff’s deputies were notified by General Mitchell International Airport operations of a medical emergency on an inbound flight to Milwaukee from Phoenix at about 12:45 a.m. today. The flight crew reported an unresponsive passenger, unconscious and not breathing.

Milwaukee County Airport Fire Department emergency personnel removed the subject from the plane and continued resuscitation measures.
