Memory Café Returning To Greendale In August

The Greendale Memory Café is returning. The café offers social opportunities to older adults in the early stages of memory loss.

GREENDALE, WI — Greendale's Memory Café, a monthly social event for older adults in the early stages of memory loss, is returning to the village in August, according to the Greendale Village Hall Update.

The Greendale Memory Café was closed for 18 months due to the pandemic. It will be reopening to former and new participants on August 25, the Village Hall Update said. Going forward, the memory cafes will be held 2:30-4 p.m. on the 4th Wednesday of each month, the update said.

The café will be run by two members of the Dementia Friendly Workgroup from Successful Aging in Greendale for Everyone (SAGE): Shannon O'Hara and Marilyn Lange, the update said. The memory café was made possible through cooperation between the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Association, Greendale Health Department, Therapy at Home and the SAGE workgroup, the update said.

Greendale's Memory Café was the first of its kind in Milwaukee County, according to the Village Hall Update. The café is a place where individuals in the early stages of memory loss can find an enjoyable social experience alongside their care partners, the update said.

The Village Hall Update said that first time attendees should pre-register by calling the Alzheimer's Association 24/7 hotline at 1-800-272-3900. There is no cost or fee for the memory café.

The memory café will open back up on August 25. It will be open every 4th Wednesday of each month at the Historic Hose Tower building located at 5699 Parking Street in Greendale.

It will be open to residents of Greendale as well as residents from surrounding communities, the Village Hall Update said.
