State of Which Union?
I don't think Obama wrote this State of the Union based on the the state of the United States.
I had grand plans of dissecting this speech. Attempting to rebut Obama’s words. The problem is that at after reading the transcripts, I don’t think Obama wrote this State of the Union based on the the state of the United States. Rather, he is abusing truths in order to push an agenda that American not only doesn’t need, but that the American people spoke against in the polls.
This speech was dedicated to the takers in our society. Obama spoke directly to the heart of those that have wants for which they demand the government to satisfy. Wants they expect with no effort of their own doing.
He begins with the story of the a young who struggles through adversity. He claims that it is “your effort and resilience that has made it possible for our country to emerge stronger.” This happen to be one of maybe two truths in this entire speech, our country was founded, built and exists because of the individual effort of its citizens. Unfortunately, within a few short paragraphs, he quickly takes credit for their efforts. Making the claim that ‘middle-class economics works’.

‘You didn’t build that’, your struggles, your tight knit family, your job experience, your return to education. It was because of Obama and progressive policy that this young family was allowed to win against adversity, not their hard work.
However, they still have struggles that the Obama government can fix. They still must work “hard as ever, but have to forego vacations and a new car so they can pay off student loans and save for retirement.” This couple, like all families, still is forced to find a balance between home life and childcare. In the Obama ideology, this is simply not acceptable. They don’t need a ‘handout’, but apparently have a right to ‘fair shot’. A fair shot at what? A fair shot at wants? Do we as members of this society now have a right to easy living?

The remainder of his speech was simply a jar of candy to those in our society who wish the government would address their wants. A government of powerful people crafting policy that removes adversity from their lives. Why must we suffer through the pain of advancing personal income via climbing the corporate ladder? Why must we be forced to take the initiative to save for our own retirement? Why must family planning be a sacrifice that hampers my disposable income? To quote Bill Murray in the movie What about Bob?, “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme. I need, I need.”
So the stage has been set for the last two years of the Obama presidency. Responsible government, one in which individual freedoms are championed will “earn my veto”. Instead, executive orders and memos will rain like mana on the American people. Offering the false hope of personal satisfaction, while doing the real damage of destroying an already fragile economy. Only a man and an ideology built on arrogance coupled with a strong superiority complex would stand before our free nation and sell government control as personal freedom.
Strength is built through adversity. It was what made America great. If you worked hard, sacrificed wants and persevered; this land gave all a fair shot at greatness. Obama’s agenda will only result in everyone being allowed a fair shot at mediocrity. That is the progressive way.
