10 Wisconsin High School Seniors Awarded BBB Serving Wisconsin ‘Students of Integrity Scholarships’

BBB Serving Wisconsin (BBB) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2017 Students of Integrity Scholarships.

Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin (BBB) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2017 Students of Integrity Scholarships.

The recipients are (in alphabetical order) Alexis Bradt of South Milwaukee High School; Sarah Mitchell of Muskego High School; Autumn Nett of Bridges Virtual Academy; Melissa Oxtoby of Howards Grove High School; Cale Pliska of Franklin High School; Alejandra Salinas of Brookfield Academy; Christopher Shields of John Edwards High School; Benjamin Smelcer of Necedah High School; Linda Vo of Whitewater High School; and Collin Weltzien of Arcadia High School.

Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship to attend a Wisconsin-based school of their choice, a new requirement of the scholarship program this year. Also new, BBB earmarked two scholarships for students attending 2-year colleges to help reflect Wisconsin’s manufacturing and trade economy.

The BBB scholarships honor students who demonstrate integrity in their lives. As part of the application process, students must submit an essay based on an ethical dilemma they’ve faced and how it was resolved. This essay and letters of reference are the most critical parts of the application and what makes the BBB scholarship program unique. While grades and test scores are submitted, they are not the determining factor for the panel of independent judges.

“Choosing just ten candidates is extremely difficult since we received hundreds of applications from very impressive students across the state,” said Jim Temmer, BBB Serving Wisconsin president/CEO. “These ten winners should be very proud. They have very bright futures and will make exceptional leaders.”
The 2017 scholarships are sponsored with gifts from Johnson Financial Group, Harley-Davidson, We Energies, Baird, Ellenbecker Investment Group, Johnson Controls, SVA Certified Public Accountants, Briggs & Stratton, Roger and Shirley Schroeder, and University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Since 2010, the BBB Serving Wisconsin has provided scholarship gifts to Wisconsin students totaling more than $125,000.
