Police Identify 25-Year-Old Who Died In High-Speed Pursuit
Officials say the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree following the pursuing officer's attempt to stop his car.

GREENFIELD, WI — A 25-year-old West Allis man has died following a high-speed police pursuit after officials say the driver lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree following the pursuing officer's attempt to stop his car.
On Friday afternoon, authorities identified the man as 25-year-old Nicholas D. O'Brien, of West Allis. He died at the scene, according to police.
According to Greenfield police, just before midnight on Thursday, March 1, a Greenfield police officer on patrol attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. According to police, O'Brien's vehicle fled from the officer, and the officer attempted to stop the vehicle using a pursuit intervention technique.

Greenfield police say that O'Brien's vehicle drove off the 3200 Block of South 25th Street and struck a tree, killing him. O'Brien was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The officer was uninjured. T The officer involved is 29 years-old-with five years of experience. The officer is on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation as per established protocol.
The Oak Creek Police Department is leading the investigation as part of the Milwaukee Area Investigative Team and is being assisted by member agencies and the Wisconsin State Patrol.

"We understand that there are still questions in regards to this incident, and we also have a duty to thoroughly investigate this incident," Oak Creek Police said Friday afternoon. "As part of the investigation, we cannot release other aspects of our on-going investigation. As soon as we can release information, we will send updates on the status of the case."
