26-Year-Old Dies In I-43 Crash

MILWAUKEE COUNTY , WI - Last night at 9:35 p.m., deputies responded to a call about a vehicle that had driven into a ditch on I-43 eastbound at S. 51st Street. Witnesses to the crash found the driver unresponsive when they went to help.

Greenfield Fire Department extricated the victim from the vehicle, and began life-saving efforts. Cory W. Polakowski, age 26, of Milwaukee, was pronounced deceased at the scene by a doctor with Milwaukee County Emergency Medical Services at 10:07 p.m.

According to the witnesses, Polakowski had been traveling at a high rate of speed while passing other vehicles, abruptly attempted to change lanes, and lost control of the vehicle.

Sheriff’s detectives with the MCSO Criminal Investigation Division responded to begin the death investigation and made notification to the victim’s family.
