48-Year-Old Mother Dead in Hit-And-Run Crash; Suspect On The Run

A fatal hit-and-run suspect is on the run from police after a crash Thursday morning left a 48-year-old mother dead.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — A fatal hit-and-run suspect is on the run from police after a crash Thursday morning left a 48-year-old mother dead.

Milwaukee Police responded to a fatal hit-and-run crash that happened around 7:50 a.m. on October 5 in the 7600 block of W. Appleton Avenue.

A preliminary investigation conducted by officers on the scene has determined a man was driving a Pontiac Sunfire was driving south on N. 76th St. when he reportedly disregarded a red light, and struck the victim’s vehicle that was traveling westbound on W. Appleton Avenue.

Police say the victim, a 48-year-old woman, was a passenger in the vehicle that was hit, and she was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.

On the scene Thursday morning, the Pontiac Sunfire suffered extensive front-end damage and was left abandoned in the middle of the road. The victims' vehicle appeared as a twisted mass of metal and glass deposited near the curb. Early reports from the scene state that a mother and her son were in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, the male driver of the vehicle that was struck suffered non-life threatening injuries. The suspect fled from the scene on foot and Milwaukee Police are continuing to search area neighborhoods for him. The investigation is ongoing.
