50 Additional Lifeguards Needed for Milwaukee County Pools

Summer lifeguards can work up to 40 hours per week. Free Training Session Begins May 21.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI β€” Looking for that summer job? Milwaukee County Parks is offering free lifeguard training to entice strong swimmers to become lifeguards. For the summer, an additional 50 lifeguards must be hired for positions at Bradford Beach, Cool Waters, David F. Schulz Aquatic Center, Pelican Cove, and 10 deep-well pools.

The next lifeguard training session begins May 21, from 6:30-9 p.m. at Pulaski Pool, 2701 S. 16th St. The training session continues nightly through May 25, with a final performance exam on Saturday, May 26 at 7 a.m.

β€œNo lifeguarding experience is necessary for the free training,” said Krystal Ganz, Aquatics Supervisor. β€œWe welcome all swimmers to bring their swimsuits and join usβ€”no need to register in advance. Anyone interested in lifeguarding with us needs to come to this session to fill out an application.”

Summer lifeguards can work up to 40 hours per weekβ€”mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekdays, or weekends. Lifeguards may request locations where they’d like to work. Many of the pools are on or near bus routes. First-year guards earn $10.46 per hour.

Applicants must be 16 years old by July and residents of Wisconsin. They do not have to be residents of Milwaukee County. By the test date, they should be able to swim 100 meters in less than one minute and 45 seconds.

The need for lifeguards does not affect the splash pads or wading pools, which are overseen by pool attendants.
