Alverno's Inaugural Golf Season Concluded At NACC Championship

he inaugural season of Alverno College golf is in the books as the Inferno golfers concluded 2013 with a 10th-place finish at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championship this evening at Trappers Turn Golf Club in Wisconsin Dells.

The season-ending tournament marked the first time Alverno finished ahead of an opponent in the team standings.

The Inferno finished the three-day event with a score of 1,296, more than 60-strokes better than 11th-place Northland College, also ahead of Edgewood College who did not field enough golfers for a team score. Concordia University Wisconsin repeated for the team title with a 926 and earned the league's automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA III Championship in the spring.

Alverno shot a 271 in Saturday's first round -- shortened to nine holes due to inclement weather -- followed with a 509 on Sunday, and closed out the championship tournament with a 516 today.

Jamie Villalobos posted the top three-day score for the Inferno with a 318 (61-130-127), which tied for 45th place.

Emily Ortner played just Sunday and Monday, but carded her best score of the season, a 113, in the second round and followed with a 115 today.

Kristen Speerschneider finished with a 333 (65-129-139), Trina Urick a 344 (71-137-136), Devon Gorman a 369 (84-147-138), while Megan Rossi posted a 74 in the nine-hole first round.

In its first season of varsity competition, Alverno competed in seven events in just over six weeks of play.
