Are You Ready for Some Football?

The high school football season opens today with Greenfield and Whitnall both taking on nonconference opponents on the road.

The first kickoff for the 2011 high school football season is just hours away, and Greenfield Patch will have both of your local teams covered.

Freelance photographer Matt Schwenke will be at the opener at Waukesha North at 7 p.m. and will be posting a photo gallery later tonight or early Saturday morning.

The Hawks went 3-6 last fall and just missed a spot in the WIAA playoffs, which would have been their first postseason appearance since 2002.

The Northstars struggled in the Classic 8 conference last fall. After winning their season opener, they lost their final eight games including all seven league contests.

Greenfield Patch will also be represented at the opener, a nonconference game at 7 p.m. at Germantown, where freelancer Brad Detert will be providing a game story.

The Falcons went 4-6 a year ago, but will be replacing a boatload of starters off last year's squad. Germantown, meanwhile, went 7-5, including 2-1 in the playoffs, but has a new head coach for the first time in 41 years.
