Bay View Supervisor Voted County Board Chairwoman

Marina Dimitrijevic won the bid to lead the Milwaukee County Board after a long voting process Monday.

Marina Dimitrijevic was voted the new chairwoman of the Milwaukee County Board on Monday, beating out four other candidates.

Supervisor Pat Jursik, who represents a portion of Oak Creek, was deadlocked with Dimitrijevic and Supervisor Theodore Lipscomb for several rounds of voting. On the 24th ballot, Dimitrijevic got 11 votes -- one more than the requirement of 10 -- to win the chairperson seat.

Dimitrijevic replaces Lee Holloway, who did not seek another term on the board.

"I'm pleased that my colleagues have entrusted me to serve as board chairwoman. I especially want to thank the other four candidates who ran for chairperson. Working closely with them is critical as we work from a team approach to move Milwaukee County forward," Dimitrijevic said in a news release. "I look forward to leading the way on important decisions facing the county over the next four years."

Before the chairperson voting, supervisors were sworn in to four-year terms.
