BBB Wisconsin Awards Scholarships to 10 Wisconsin High School stu

Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin (BBB) has awarded ten high school seniors from across Wisconsin each a $2,500 scholarship as part of its annual statewide Students of Integrity Scholarship program.

The winners are listed in alphabetical order:

Kayla Chambers of Messmer High School who will be attending UW-Milwaukee; Grace Colvin of Reedsburg Area High School who will be attending UW-Madison; Emma Hanisko of Cambridge High School who will be attending UW-Madison; Laron Higgins of Milwaukee High School of the Arts who will be attending UW-Madison; Tiana Johnson of Roncalli High School who will be attending UW-Manitowoc; Akhbar Khan Feroz Khan of Pulaski High School who will be attending UW-Milwaukee; Mala Lue of Pulaski High School who will be attending UW-Milwaukee; Pranav Srivastava of Wausau West High School who will be attending UW-Madison; Hang Yin of Sussex Hamilton High School who will be attending UW-Whitewater; and Macailey Zipperer of Reedsville High School who will be attending Lakeshore Technical College.

“With nearly 500 applicants this year, and many extraordinary, it made the task of narrowing it down to just ten winners very challenging,” said Jim Temmer, BBB Serving Wisconsin president/CEO. “These ten winners are outstanding individuals with very promising futures. There is no doubt they will become successful, ethical leaders.”

The judging process of selecting the scholarship recipients places a strong emphasis on the students’ essays, which required them to discuss an ethical dilemma they faced and describe how they handled it with decision-making skills of integrity. The recipients of the scholarship described difficult situations, ranging from social pressures to maintaining a commitment to family values. All students discussed how their role models have helped to shape their behaviors and ethics in life.

“The Students of Integrity Scholarship granted by BBB Serving Wisconsin is a great opportunity for students as it rewards not only hard work in school, but dedication to one’s family, work, and community,” said Kathy Helenek of Rotaract Club of Milwaukee and one of the scholarship judges. “This year’s scholarship earners are an amazing group of outstanding teenagers from our communities who are going to make a difference and stand out in society.”

Each year, BBB Serving Wisconsin awards ten scholarships for post-high school education at any Wisconsin-based accredited college beginning in the fall of 2018. Two of the ten scholarships are reserved for students who will be attending 2-year colleges to help reflect Wisconsin’s manufacturing and trade economy.
Funding for the 2018 BBB Students of Integrity Scholarship program is provided by the generous support of donors. Scholarship recipients will be recognized at BBB Serving Wisconsin’s annual Torch Awards for Ethics Luncheon on May 16 at the Italian Community Center. Since 2010, the BBB Serving Wisconsin has provided scholarship gifts to Wisconsin students totaling more than $150,000.
