All About Books: In Between Books
No teaser this week because book blogger Jenna Czaplewski is in between reads. But, take this as an invitation to suggest her next read!
Once again, I find myself in between books this Teaser Tuesday! I spent the last week reading the outstanding "Shadow of Night" by Deborah Harkness. I gave it five stars on Goodreads, but I'm hesitant to review it for this blog because it is rather spoilery. So, if you want to know and don't mind those spoilers, head on over and read my review on Goodreads. (Feel free to add me as a friend while you're there!)
Last night I finished reading "The Girl with Borrowed Wings" by Rinsai Rossetti, which was okay, but overall underwhelming. Frenenqer Paje is the main character and narrator of the story. She and her family - her mother and father - live in a desert oasis with other expatriots. As Frenenqer sees it, she wasn't born so much as created by her father. He rules over the household with an iron fist and Frenenqer feels his force of will like a finger prodding her in the back. As a result, she's uptight, tense and, very often, claustrophobic. She rescues a near-dead cat at a market one afternoon only to find that it isn't a cat at all, but a Free person who can shape shift and, when human, is actually rather handsome. Heaven knows how or why, but he falls in love with Frenenqer even though she can't love him in return. An okay read, but not what I was expecting and hoping for.
So then, next up: "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks." I'm a little nervous about this one because I don't often get too interested in nonfiction, but, as it's for a book club, I'm diving in. What are you all reading? And what should I read next?
