Alverno Falters At Marian

Alverno College fell behind 3-0 after doubles play and managed only one match victory in an 8-1 dual loss to host Marian University at Buttermilk Creek Park this evening.

FOND DU LAC, Wis. -- The Alverno College tennis team fell behind 3-0 after doubles play and managed only one match victory in an 8-1 dual loss to host Marian University at Buttermilk Creek Park this evening.

The loss eliminated the Inferno (3-7, 3-7 Northern Athletics Conference) from qualifying for the NAC Tournament, while the Sabres (9-7, 7-4 NAC) secured a spot in the six-team tourney.

Damanique Drake was the only Alverno player to pick up a match victory as she defeated her Sabre opponent 7-5, 6-7 (5-7) and 11-9 in the No. 5 singles match.

Abigail Kohal made it to a third set, but lost her No. 2 singles match 4-6, 6-3 and 10-8.

Alverno concludes conference play next week as it host Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, Oct. 3.
