Alverno Loses 2 In Opening Day Of Vikings Clash

The Alverno College volleyball team opened play at the Vikings Clash Tournament, Friday afternoon, and lost a pair of matches to host North Park University and to Marian University.

CHICAGO -- The Alverno College volleyball team opened play at the Vikings Clash Tournament, Friday afternoon, and lost a pair of matches to host North Park University and to Marian University.

The Inferno (1-5) dropped the opening match to the Vikings (3-2) by scores of 25-22, 25-9 and 25-11. Alverno committed 19 errors to just 17 kills in the match.

Emma Ortner (Tigerton, Wis.) led Alverno with seven kills and eight digs, while Reagan Owen (Salina, Kan./Central) had a match-high 15 assists.

Against Marian (5-2), the Inferno attack improved, but not enough to overcome the Sabres in the 25-11, 25-9 and 25-19 defeat. The Inferno connected for 21 kills and just 12 errors, led by Cali Trepp (Iron Mountain, Mich./Niagara), who connected for a team-best nine kills, while Owen served up 17 assists.

Alverno concludes play at the tournament tomorrow versus Benedictine University at 10 a.m. and against MIT at 12 p.m.
