Alverno To Add Golf As Varsity Sport This Fall

Alverno College Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth has announced that the college will add women's golf as a varsity sport this upcoming fall of 2013.

Alverno College Director of Athletics Brad Duckworth has announced that the college will add women's golf as a varsity sport this upcoming fall of 2013.

"I am very pleased to announce the addition of golf at Alverno College," said Duckworth.

"Women's golf is the next logical step in the progression of our department. Our current and prospective student-athletes have asked for the sport, and we are happy to be officially launching the program."

Alverno will compete for the Northern Athletics Conference title at the league championship in the fall, and will be eligible for the NAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship, which goes to the conference champion.

Duckworth will serve as the program's inaugural head coach.

"I'm very pleased to be the first coach of the program," added Duckworth. "We have really started to solidify Alverno College Athletics as a strong intercollegiate program, and I'm confident we can quickly do the same with golf. I look forward to the challenges and am excited to move the sport forward."

Women's golf will become the seventh varsity sport at the women's college located in Milwaukee. Golf will be added to the current offerings of basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis and volleyball. All sports compete in the NAC at the NCAA Division III level.
