Confessions of a Serial Addict

The story of how one reader just can't stay away from book series.

In retrospect, 2012 has been the year of the series for me. It seems I just can't stay away from books that have one or more sequels. Now, that can be fun; I admit I get rather attached to characters from good books and it's nice to spend more time with them in subsequent editions. But it can also be extremely frustrating when reading a series and the next book isn't published yet.

I've just started four new series of books. (It's a sickness, I know.) It seems I just can't stay away. In just this past year alone, I've started or continued the following series:

  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Stieg Larsson)
  • Matched, Crossed, and Reached (Ally Condie)
  • Hex Hall (Rachel Hawkins)
  • The Haunted Guesthouse series (E.J. Cooperman)
  • Legend (Marie Lu)
  • Across the Universe (Beth Revis)
  • Miss Peregrine (Ransom Riggs)
  • Divergent (Veronica Roth)
  • All Souls trilogy (Deborah Harkness)
  • Mr. and Mrs. Darcy mysteries (Carrie Bebris)
  • Fitzwilliam Darcy, Gentleman (Pamela Aidan)
  • Pure (Julianna Baggott)
  • Fifty Shades of Grey (E.L. James)
  • Green Angel (Alice Hoffman)
  • Jane Fairfax (Michael Thomas Ford)
  • Cahill Witch Chronicles (Jessica Spotswood)
  • The Wolves of Mercy Falls (Maggie Stiefvater)
  • The Books of Faerie (Maggie Steifvater)
  • The Books of Bayern (Shannon Hale)
  • Outlander (Diana Gabaldon)
  • Crossfire (Sylvia Day)
  • Affairs by Moonlight (Juliana Gray)
  • Hush, Hush (Becca Fitzpatrick)
  • Caster Chronicles (Kami Garcia)
  • Fallen (Lauren Kate)
  • The Mortal Instruments (Cassandra Clare)
  • Booktown mysteries (Lorna Barrett)
  • Jane Austen mysteries (Stephanie Barron)
  • Bibliophile mysteries (Kate Carlisle)

Oh, my. Seeing them all laid out like that . . . sheesh. I really am a serial addict! But, you know me, always fishing for recommendations. What series am I missing that I should add to my to-read pile?
