Fuentes Scores Twice In Loss To Beavers

Visiting Buena Vista University wasted no time in a 7-2 victory over host Alverno College on Sunday afternoon at Alverno Field.

MILWAUKEE -- Visiting Buena Vista University wasted no time in a 7-2 victory over host Alverno College on Sunday afternoon at Alverno Field.

The Beavers (7-0-1) scored twice in the first 4 minutes of the game, and added two more goals before the 25-minute-mark for a 4-0 halftime lead.

The Inferno (2-4) closed the gap, 4-2, as rookie Rebecca Fuentes scored the first two goals of her college career in a 2:03 span.

Her first score came in the 63rd minute from about 10 yards out on the left side off a pass by Brittany Carpenter.

Just over 2 minutes later, Nava Moniriarani connected with Fuentes off a free kick for the second Inferno goal.

However, Buena Vista ended play with three unanswered goals for the 7-2 final.

Alverno returns to play on Wednesday at Dominican University. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
