Inferno Battles, But Muskies Take Match, 3-0

MILWAUKEE -- Host Alverno College battled with visiting Lakeland College in tonight's Northern Athletics Conference women's volleyball match, but the Muskies left Reiman Gymnasium with a 3-0 victory.
The Inferno (3-11, 0-2 NAC) stuck with the Muskies (9-3, 2-0 NAC) in the first set as a Mariah Arterberry kill cut the deficit to two, 23-21. But Lakeland answered with two attacks of its own on the final three points for the 25-22 set-one win.
In the second set another Inferno kill -- this time by Cali Trepp -- again cut the lead to 23-21, but two straight kills by the visitors put the set away, 25-21.

Alverno couldn't quite muster up the same fight in the third and final set, as Lakeland led by as many as seven, and went away with a 25-18 win.
Inferno setter Reagan Owen recorded a double-double with 23 assists and a game-best 10 digs, while Emma Ortner (9 kills), Arterberry (8 kills) and Trepp (7 kills) led the offensive attack.

Chelsea Gulbronson led the service game with a pair of aces.
Alverno has nearly a week off, as the team doesn't return to action until Tuesday, Sept. 25, against defending NAC champion Dominican University.
