Inferno Earns Senior Day Split With 16-Run Nightcap

Alverno College bounced back from 7-5 loss and won the nightcap of a doubleheader versus Rockford College, 16-6, to snap the Inferno's seven-game slide on Senior Day at Alverno Field.

MILWAUKEE -- Alverno College bounced back from 7-5 loss and won the nightcap of a doubleheader versus Rockford College, 16-6, to snap the Inferno's seven-game slide on Senior Day at Alverno Field.

The visiting Regents (6-24, 4-14 Northern Athletics Conference) scored six runs over the first five innings and held the Inferno (13-15, 5-13 NAC) scoreless until Stef Wilmore hit her seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth.

Megan Rossi knocked in another run to close the lead to four runs, but a leadoff homer by the Regents pushed the lead to 7-2.

Alverno scored three runs in the final inning, which included a two-run double by Erika Wotnoske, who was 4-for-4 at the plate with three doubles, but didn't get any closer.

Jamie Villalobos (6-9) tried to help her own cause with a 3-for-4 hitting performance, but picked up the loss in the pitchers circle surrendering six runs (four earned) in 4.1 innings pitched. Brittany Bura picked up the complete-game victory for the Regents with five strikeouts.

After the strong offensive finish in game one, the Inferno continued the scoring in the nightcap by plating five runs in the opening inning which was capped off by a Rossi two-run homer.

The Inferno then tacked on six runs in the second as Rossi again capped off the scoring with her second home run of the game.

Alverno added five more runs over the next two innings and run-ruled the Regents after five frames with the 10-run advantage.

Lauren Colette and Ashleigh Sagat led the Inferno with three hits apiece. Sagat had a game-high five RBIs in the win, while Wotnoske added four, and Rossi and Wilmore batted in three apiece.

Erin Dulek (3-3) picked up the complete-game win for the Inferno with four Ks, while Bura (3-7) was tagged with the loss after surrendering 14 runs off 13 hits in just three innings pitched.

Alverno returns to the filed on Friday as it hosts Dominican University in a two-game series at 3 p.m.
