Inferno Sweeps Regents, Swept By Eagles
The Alverno College tennis team bounced back from an early morning defeat by Edgewood College to defeat host Rockford College this afternoon at Barnes Tennis Courts.
ROCKFORD, Ill. -- The Alverno College tennis team bounced back from an early morning defeat by Edgewood College to defeat host Rockford College this afternoon at Barnes Tennis Courts.
Against the host Regents (0-8, 0-8 Northern Athletics Conference) the Inferno took an early 3-0 lead after doubles play, and had little trouble in singles play as five of the six matches were won in straight sets by the Inferno (3-5, 3-5 NAC).
In the No. 6 singles match, Charmaine Clark won her first set 6-1, but lost a close second set, 7-6, before taking the third and final frame, 11-9, to complete the team sweep and a 9-0 dual victory.

Earlier in the day against the Eagles (7-1, 6-0 NAC) in Madison, Wis., the Inferno was on the other side of the 9-0 dual score. The defending co-champs won each of its singles matches in straight sets over the Inferno.
Alverno returns to play on Wednesday, Sept. 19, hosting Lakeland College at 4 p.m. at Grant Park.
