Lower-Half Of Lineup Comes Through As Panthers Beat North Dakota

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point and captured four singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over North Dakota Friday afternoon.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's tennis team won the doubles point and captured four singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over North Dakota Friday afternoon.

The Panthers (2-3) received excellent play from the lower portion of the lineup, winning at two and three doubles as well as at three, four, five and six singles.

"I thought today we took a step in the right direction with a solid win," head coachΒ Sean McInerneyΒ said. "We have really been emphasizing competing on every point at every spot and today we did an outstanding job with that. We have a long way to go, but at least today we looked like a team that wanted to win up and down the lineup."

Milwaukee got off on the right foot asΒ Kelly FritzΒ andΒ Dana ShannonΒ claimed a convincing 8-1 win at number-two doubles beforeΒ Chelsea BaileyΒ andΒ Brittany SkempΒ pulled out a hard-fought 8-7 win in the third slot.

In single play, Bailey, Shannon andΒ Christina ColarossiΒ all won in straight sets whileΒ Kristin KurerΒ captured a three-set win in the sixth spot.
