Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center Pet of the Week: Lanie
Lanie is looking for a purrfect family!
Lanie is a very special kitten.
In February, we received a call to assist with a mom cat and her two infant kittens, who we later named Kent and Lanie. All three were sick and placed in a highly experienced foster home where they received medical care and lots of love. Phoebe, the mama, developed a condition called mastitis which prohibited her kittens from being able to nurse. Our medical team immediately intervened. Phoebe was treated for her condition and her kittens were transferred to our critical care nursery for round-the-clock care.

At just a few weeks old, Kent and Lanie needed lots of intense care, and they got it. Both kittens started to show improvement. They gained weight. They grew stronger. But something just didn't seem quite right with Kent. He was seen by our trusted veterinary partner where after several tests he was diagnosed with a congenital disease that could not be treated with dietary, medical, or surgical intervention. On a very sad Wednesday in March, Kent was surrounded by his favorite humans as we said goodbye.
Lanie is Kent's sister. That's what I mean. She's special.

Now, this girl is not the sugar-coated, snuzzle you til you drop kind of kid that her brother was. She's quite the opposite! The first word that comes to mind when I think of Lanie is spitfire. The next, firecracker. She's got a great big personality and attitude to match. That's not to say she isn't a sweet girl, because she definitely is. She likes to hang out at the feet of the humans, or in front of the computer screen, or on top of the keyboard, just to let you know she's there. But what she loves is getting rowdy! She chases her toys with gusto and romps and stomps with the other cats all day long. Once in a while, she sleeps. (Or so she tells us.) She knows how to have a good time, and we never tire of watching her!
Lanie's vivacity for life is a testament to the tireless work our medical team does to save precious lives like hers. Lanie loves and appreciates every minute she's alive, and we love and appreciate every minute we spend with her. Her new people will be really, really lucky to have this girl join their family.
