Powderpuff Football: Go Big or Go Home

As part of homecoming week the Whitnall girls are having a Powderpuff football game this Thursday.

This Thursday at the newly renovated Whitnall Falcon Field, a powderpuff game for the ages will take place between the junior and senior girls as a homecoming tradition.

Every school has its homecoming traditions, whether it's the homecoming dance or spirit week. A tradition at Whitnall is the powderpuff football game. Normally, this game is unorganized, but Whitnall’s athletic director Rick Elertson made it a priority to make this game happen.

The girls have been preparing for powderpuff the past three grueling weeks with difficult practices. At practice, the senior girls split into offense and defense with intense drilling and hard conditioning. The girls hope that all the practice pays off.

Danielle White, known as D White, plans on leading the senior girls to victory by setting an example of hard work and dedication.

“I really hope all our enthusiasm will bring home the 'W', the senior linebacker said.

This is a big step for Whitnall because in recent years the game hasn’t been run through the school due to the risk of injury from tackling. The rules are much more strict now since its ran through the school.

Rachel Tillman, the senior center, does powderpuff for fun: “It's senior year; I gotta live it up while I can.”

What better way to spend a Thursday night than heading to Falcon Field for a tailgate and some old fashion football? Many people are looking forward to this highly anticipated game, so bring your spouses, bring your grandparents, and bring your kids because everyone is going to this game.
