Whitnall Wrestlers Climbing Up the Ladder
Slowly but surely the Whitnall wrestlers are making their way to state.

On Feb. 2, Whitnall wrestlers traveled to Pewaukee High School for the Woodland Conference Tournament, and on Feb. 8, they were at Greenfield High SchoolΒ for a WIAA regionals.
From there, a large amount of the team qualified for this weekend's sectional.
At the conference tournament, senior Zach Barnhart (170 pounds) and sophomore Anthony Senthavisouk (106) both took firstΒ place.

"It's somewhat depressing because Iβve been having a really good year (a record of 38-7) and itβs also exciting because I don't have to monitor my food intake anymore," Barnhart said. "And on taking home the gold, it was rewarding.β
When asked how it felt to win conference as a sophomore, Senthavisouk said it felt, ββGreat, fantastic, and overwhelming.ββΒ He hopes to increase his record next year although he had a pretty impressive 40-4 record this year.

The two proceeded to take firstΒ again at regionals.
Another senior, Zach Price (160), finished fourth in the conference tournament on. When asked what kind of mental set he had going into his matches, his said, "I try to be as focused as possible, think of the moves I try to hit, and stay relaxed."
A sophomore, Blake Leslie (126), was forced to drop out of the conference meetΒ because he had injured ribs.
"Pretty disappointed," he said. "It made me determined for next year to come back and win conference."
Blake, however, did wrestle this past weekend at regionals and won first place at 126 pounds.
There seems to be an oddball out on the varsity wrestling team and his name is Nick Monty, a senior at 138 pounds. . Unlike most wrestlers Nick wrestles Greco style, which means that when he wrestles he throws more than he shoots.
"It's different to do it because the coaches don't teach it as much," Monty said.
Although he has a different wrestling style, it doesnβt seem to stop him from succeeding at tournaments. He placed thirdΒ at both conference and regionals.
Needless to say the wrestling team has been very successful these past two weekends. They hope to succeed more at Sectionals this weekend taking place at Waukesha.Β
