Community Activist Denounces Rush Limbaugh

Robert Heule believes the city should cancel a lease with Clear Channel over Limbaugh's latest rant.

It's usually pretty hard for someone like national talk show host Rush Limbaugh to go "too far" but apparently that's what many feel he has done this time.

Limbaugh's comments about Sandra Fluke, particularly those calling the Georgetown law student, who testified in front of Democratic members of the House of Representatives about free contraception, a slut and prostitute have struck a nerve for many across the country.

The backlash has been heavy and steady on Limbaugh. On Thursday, Politico reported 45 companies have pulled their advertising from Limbaugh's show since his remarks.

Community Activist Bob Heule believes Limbaugh's rant should have a trickle down effect all the way to Greenfield.

In a statement read to the city's Common Council on Tuesday, Heule asked the city halt outside the because Clear Channel owns radio stations, including . WISN broadcasts out of a station in Greenfield.

Here is Heule's complete statement:

"You no doubt have heard about Rush Limbaugh's attack on Sandra Fluke because of her testimony before a committee of the U.S. House of Representatives on the issue of contraceptives.

"As you know, Clear Channel owns radio stations including WISN, which is located right here in the City of Greenfield that carry Limbaugh's program.

"I respectfully request that you cancel your arrangement with Clear Channel to construct an electronic sign in front of the Community Center until it cancels Rush Limbaugh's program. Local governments need to join advertisers that deal with Clear Channel in pressuring it to take action.

"Rush Limbaugh has crossed the line in broadcasting decency. How would you like it if your daughter was called a slut and a prostitute before a national audience? Would we males tolerate it if Rush called any one of us a whore-monger? heck no. Limbaugh's latest rant will deter people, especially women, from appearing before any legislative committees in the future. Rush should be on satellite radio along with Howard Stern.

"I realize that canceling the sign arrangement may cause some concerns among some of its supporters, but let's help stop this abuse of our fellow citizens over the people's airwaves."
