Daily Sports Beat: Falcons Keep Pace in Standings By Beating Hawks

The Whitnall boys basketball team had no trouble assuring that Friday’s showdown with first-place New Berlin Eisenhower would mean something.

The Falcons handled host and intercity rival Greenfield with ease, 78-55, behind 21 points from Stephen Pelkofer and 15 from Bryan Nagy on Tuesday.

Whitnall jumped out to a 43-18 halftime lead and never let up.

The Falcons improved to 13-7 overall and 11-4 in the Woodland Conference. They are tied with South Milwaukee in second place in the division standings, one game behind front-runner Eisenhower.

Whitnall plays at Eisenhower at 7:30 p.m. Friday, the second-to-last league game of the season for both teams.

Greenfield, which got 17 points from Ricky Santiago and 13 from Austin Jacobsen, fell to 4-16 overall, 3-12 conference.

The Falcons struggled offensively again as they dropped a nonconference home affair, 52-32, to Waterford on Tuesday.

Waterford’s Stephanie Rank scored 27 points, nearly outscoring the entire Whitnall squad.

It was the eighth time this season the Falcons (9-9 overall) have scored fewer than 40 points. They are 1-7 in those contests.
