Daniel the Cat Could Help Rescue Center Land on its Feet in Greenfield

The 26-toed cat is making national headlines just as the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center is hoping to secure a permanent home in Greenfield.

A popular animal rescue center that is interested in moving to Greenfield made national news over the last week thanks to one of its furry friends.

Since Oct. 30, the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center, which will be making a presentation at Tuesday's in an effort to secure a ,Β has raised nearly $38,000 toward "our criticalΒ phase one fundraising goal to secure aΒ permanent home," according to a newsletter emailed by MARC director Amy Rowell.

The fundraising goal is $40,000 by Nov. 15, and thanks to Daniel the Cat, the center is well on its way.

Daniel has 26 toes and has inspired donations from 44 states and four countries, according to the newsletter, which asks readers to consider a donation of $26 or more.

He came to the centerΒ Oct. 27, as as a transfer from a local animal control facility.Β According to a story on the Huffington Post, Daniel was supposed to be euthanized that day due to lack of space and resources at the animal control center.

According to CBS58 News, the center raised $18,000 in just two days after Rowell put a call out for fundraising support for the center and Daniel. FOX6 reported that figure bumped to $30,000 in a week and thatΒ Daniel could appear onΒ Ellen Degeneres' show soon.

The first phase of fundraising will pay for the down payment on the Greenfield property and closing costs. Phase two of fundraising, from Nov. 15 through Dec. 31, would cover moving and initial renovation and phase three, from Jan. 1 through completion, would cover the balance of the mortgage, property maintenance and extended renovation.
