'Dude, Where's My Car?'

A Greenfield man was in for a shock when, after he fled the scene of an accident, he found that police towed his car when they found it.

GREENFIELD, WI — A Greenfield man was in for a shock when, after he fled the scene of an accident, he found that police towed his car when they found it parked outside his apartment.

Robert A. Brester has been charged with hit-and-run causing injury and faces time behind bars if he is convicted.

According to his criminal complaint, a Greenfield woman was in her vehicle stopped and waiting for a school bus to pass on March 1, when she observed a black Honda Civic traveling northbound on S 65th St, which seemed to lose control of itself.

The Honda Civic then collided into her vehicle, and fled the scene, traveling northbound down 65th St toward W Forest Home Ave. The woman, who was injured in the crash, was able to take a picture of the Honda Civic, his complaint stated.

According to his criminal complaint, Greenfield police later found the Honda Civic parked at Brester's apartment on S 65th St, and attempted to make contact with him. An officer stated that he was unable to make contact with anyone inside the apartment, and had the car towed.

Unsurprisingly, police later received a voicemail from Brester, who said that he was in an auto accident earlier in the day, and had been in a rush to get to work, the complaint stated.

According to his criminal complaint, Brester stated he got about half way to work, then came back home, and later found his vehicle missing. He agreed later to come into the Greenfield Police Department, and was booked for Hit and Run Causing Injury.
