Ethan's Run Against Addiction To Be Held In Konkel Park Saturday

A run fundraiser against addiction will be held Saturday starting in Konkel Park. Registration is open to the last minute.

GREENFIELD, WI — Ethan's Run Against Addiction will kick off its annual 5k race Saturday morning. Runners can register up to the last minute, people can also watch the event from a live stream.

The event will feature guest speaker Gene Mueller from Newsradio 620 WTMJ, music from Jimmi T and plenty more guests and events, according to a Facebook post from Ethan's Run Against Addiction.

The run seeks to raise awareness around addiction and overdoses. Its namesake, Ethan Monson-Dupuis, was a 25 year old from the Milwaukee area who struggled with addiction. He died in 2016 after an accidental overdose from heroin after years of dealing with an addiction, according to the Ethan's Run website.

The run will raise awareness that "addiction is a brain disease, not a character flaw or lack of will power. Run or walk in honor of someone who is in recovery or who had lost their fight," the Ethan's Run website said.

Proceeds from the run will go toward The Ethan Monson-Dupuis Opiate Recovery Fund, organized by the Aurora Health Care Foundation, according to the run's signup sheet.

Free post-run massages will be handed out by PT Plus. Ice cream will be for sale from Scratch Ice Cream, according to a Facebook post from Ethan's Run Against Addiction.

The run is not timed, and awards will not be given out. Instead, it is a "fun run/walk." Registration on the morning of the run costs $40. Pre-registration costs $35, according to the signup form. The in-person race starts at 8 a.m. in Konkel Park, located at 5151 West Layton Avenue in Greenfield.

The run this year is not entirely in person. A virtual element will allow people from across the world to run as well in support of addiction awareness, according to the run's website. A livestream of the even can be viewed via the Ethan's Run Against Addiction Facebook.
