The Alverno College Research Center for Women and Girls will host Louise W. Knight, author of Jane Addams: Spirit in Action, on Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. in Wehr Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
The topic of Knight’s talk will be “How Peace Brings Women’s Rights and Women’s Rights Bring Peace: The Life Lessons of Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Jane Addams.” Addams was the first American woman awarded the Noble Peace Prize, co-founder of the Hull House and the founding president of the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. Knight’s book was released on the 150th anniversary of Addams’ birth, and its publication coincided with the launch of a campaign to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325, which emphasized the need to include, recognize and consider women in the work of the U.N.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase at a reception following the program, and Knight will be on hand for book signing.
