Journey back in time to Puritan New England. In 1665, Caleb became the first American Indian to graduate from Harvard. But equally compelling is the story of his fictional friend Bethia Mayfield, a minister's daughter, and her spirited struggle to become her own person, to create a rewarding life for herself and to get an education in a world that would limit her to a very narrow sphere as a woman. We'll tell Bethia and Caleb's stories and look at Bethia's world from the perspective of women's history. Even if you have not read the fascinating historical novel by Geraldine Brooks, you'll enjoy this workshop.
