Farmer's Almanac Predicts Rough Winter Ahead For Wisconsin

The almanac also offers a forecast for the next three months for Wisconsin and the rest of the Great Lakes region.

The Farmers’ Almanac has released its long-range prediction for winter 2018. The news isn't too rosy for Wisconsin, unless you like to go sledding or you drive a four-wheel-drive truck — which is just fine and dandy for some of us.

The publication predicts this winter will be a bit more “normal” as far as the temperatures are concerned, but that isn't necessarily a good thing unless you like the cold.

As far as precipitation goes, Wisconsin could also see a return to normal after a relatively mild winter in 2016. How much snow can we expect in the Badger State? A good amount in the Great Lakes area, which includes Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan, according to the Farmers' Almanac:

From the Great Lakes into the Northeast, snowier-than-normal conditions are expected. We can hear the skiers, boarders, and snowmobilers cheering from here!

November 2017

12th-15th.Generally fair.
16th-19th.Tumultuous conditions for Kentucky; stormy for Great Lakes followed by clearing/much colder weather.
20th-23rd.Deteriorating conditions arrive by Thanksgiving. Fair at first, then turning wet.
24th-27th.Mostly fair/cold.
28th-30th.Unsettled weather develops with snow, especially over the Great Lakes.


December 2017

1st-3rd. Light snow and flurries.
4th-7th. Turning unsettled, especially over Wisconsin/Northern Illinois, where heavy wet snow may fall.
8th-11th. Clearer/drier/colder air moves in.
12th-15th. Snow, followed by fair, cold weather.
16th-19th. Light snow, especially around the Great Lakes.
20th-23rd. Snow across Midwest and points east, then fair/very cold.
24th-27th. Turning milder with a few showers of wet snow or rain.
28th-31st. Clearing skies as 2017 comes to an end

January 2018

1st-3rd. Unsettled particularly around the Great Lakes.
