Greenfield a Purrrrfect Fit For Daniel, Animal Rescue Center

Daniel the Cat, the 26-toed cat familiar with the spotlight, seemed prepared to speak on behalf of the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center at Tuesday’s Common Council meeting.

But a , the center’s executive director, to relocate the center from the upper level of Southridge Mall to 5101 W. Loomis Rd., was met with no resistance, leaving Daniel, a orange and white tabby known worldwide for his extra digits, was left mostly talking to himself.

“The cat has to sign up for citizen commentary,” Mayor Michael Neitzke joked as Daniel purred during Community Development Manager Chuck Erickson’s presentation at a public hearing at .

The special use permit was approved unanimously, 5-0. Earlier this year, Southridge Mall chose not to renew the center's lease.

“Every person I’ve talked to is thrilled that this is coming to our city,” Neitzke said.

According to Rowell, the center closes on its new property on Friday and will be moving out of its Southridge location next week. There will be some renovations made to the center’s new location before a scheduled spring grand opening.

Daniel to purchase the Greenfield location. helped people from all over the world decide to donate at least $26, or one dollar for each of Daniel’s toes as the center raised more than $80,000.
