Greenfield Backpack Distribution Planned For Friday
Volunteers are needed for an event where the Greenfield Cold Spring Salvation Army will distribute backpacks and food boxes this week.
GREENFIELD, WI — Over 800 backpacks will be distributed on Friday by the Cold Spring Salvation Army. Volunteers are needed to help pack food boxes and distribute the backpacks, according to Amy Hand, the media representative for Salvation Army.
The annual backpack distribution returns to Greenfield from 4-7 p.m. on August 6, and volunteers are needed, according to Greenfield's Facebook post. Volunteers can sign up to help distribute the backpacks on Friday or can help set up on Thursday.
The backpack drive will benefit Greenfield students who registered ahead of time, Hand said. Registration is closed for the event Friday, but people can be put on a waiting list by calling 414-763-9797.

"Heading back to school can be stressful for students and their parents when they don't have the school supplies necessary for academic success," the Salvation Army website said.
"Starting the school year with a new backpack filled with school supplies can help students feel confident and ready to meet the educational challenges during the school year and achieve success."

Each backpack will be filled with the necessary supplies for a students success, according to the Salvation Army Website.
Food boxes for families that need them, as well as extra school supplies, will also be available at the event.

The event corresponds with the "Stuff the Bus" event, which will also benefit students headed back to school soon. The Salvation Army and Walmart are collaborating to hold the event at Walmart locations across Milwaukee County.
The Walmart located at 10600 West Layton Avenue in Greenfield will participate in the "Stuff the Bus" event. People can purchase school supplies and immediately donate that supplies to benefit students in Milwaukee County. Collections take place from Aug. 6-8.
