Greenfield Boys Soccer Team Off to Solid Start

The Hustlin' Hawks have won two of their first four matches.

Just four matches into the 2011 season and the boys soccer team is already within striking distance of its 2010 win total.

The Hawks defeated host West Allis Hale, 1-0, Aug. 20, to improve to 2-1-1 after going 3-14-1 last fall.

Greenfield’s lone goal came from senior Tyler Braden, who was playing in his first game of the season, in the 25th minute. A Hale defender played a ball back to his goal keeper, but Braden intercepted it, pushed it away from the goalie and placed the ball into the empty net.

“It was good pressure and good defense from our forwards that created this opportunity for us to score,” Greenfield coach Steve Larson said.

Greenfield goal keeper Eric Frank recorded his second straight shutout by making four saves.

“We have a lot of work to do still and a long way to go, but the team’s attitude is positive and morale is high,” Larson said.

Three days earlier in the Racine Case Invite, the Hawks defeated the host school, 2-0.

David Castillo, a freshman standout scored Greenfield’s first goal on a direct shot over the wall during a free kick, and the insurance goal came from senior Pat Medley.
