Greenfield Netflix Users Will be Paying More Soon

Rates are on the rise and subscription plans are changing for the popular movie rental company.

If you're a Netflix user - one of the 24 million worldwide - be prepared to pay more for the service you've become accustomed to.

According to the Huffington Post, the company is doing away with its $9.99 monthly unlimited DVD-rental and streaming combination plan, instead replacing it with two separate plans.

The price for the separate plans is $7.99 each, or $15.98 for the pair.Β

In addition, the DVD rental plan only allows the user to check out one disc at a time. To get two discs at a time, the cost is $11.99 a month.

Dan Deutschendorf, a Greenfield Patch Facebook fan, said he'd pay $15 a month if they, "had a better streaming selection,Β but I will be canceling mine (subscription) and will rent from Redbox."

Greenfield's Carolyn Tyler believes this was Netflix's plan all along.

"In order to knock out a competitior, they had to lower their prices," she said on Greenfield Patch's Facebook site. "Now, to survive, Netfllex must raise them."

The changes take place immediately for new users, according to a Netflix Blog, while existing users have until Sept. 1 to select a new plan, according to the story.
