Greenfield Police Chief Speaks On Officer Who Was Shot Sunday
After surgery Monday the Greenfield Police officer who was shot Sunday is expected to recover. Chief Jay Johnson spoke in a video Tuesday.

GREENFIELD, WI — The Greenfield Police Department officer who was shot early Sunday morning in Milwaukee is expected to recover, the Greenfield Police Department said in a news release.
In a video statement, Greenfield Police Chief Jay Johnson said the incident is "the most difficult time in the history of the Greenfield Police Department." Johnson also extended thanks to the Milwaukee Fire Department, Police Department and other members of the community.
Police officers immediately involved in the fatal shooting of a Milwaukee man will be placed on administrative leave, per policy, Johnson said. Other officers that assisted "have a long road ahead," he said.

The officer went into surgery Monday. He is still in critical condition but on the way to recovery.
The officer was shot after chasing a vehicle in Milwaukee. A suspect was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with multiple officers, according to police. One 36-year-old officer with three years of experience with was shot multiple times and was in critical condition, GPD said.

After a crash into a car near 27th Street and Becher in Milwaukee the driver began shooting at police through the windshield, according to the GPD statement released Monday.
"Officers retreated to cover and it was found one of the officers had suffered several gunshot wounds. Backup officers immediately performed lifesaving efforts that were nothing short of heroic," Monday's statement from the Greenfield Police Department said.
"The Milwaukee Police Department arrived on scene and the suspect was located a short distance away. Lifesaving efforts were attempted but the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Greenfield Police said the shooting came after an attempted traffic stop, chase and crash.
