Greenfield's Road-Funding Proposal Among Budget Topics

The city's annual public budget hearing is at City Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 15.

An aggressive road improvement program will likely be the center of debate next week when the City of Greenfield holds its public hearing on its proposed 2012 budget.

The program, according to Greenfield NOW, would be the lead factor for a proposed 2.15 percent property tax increase, but would also save the city an estimated $2 million over the life of the 15-year, $11 million loan needed to complete the work.

In a , 42 of 90 Patch users voted in favor of the tax increase if it meant better roads for the city. Thirty-one voters were not in favor of the tax increase and 17 said the city should pay off its current debt instead of taking on more.
