Greenfield to Examine Paramedic Program Options Tonight

Approximately $230,000 has been taken from the city as part of Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's stripped down 2012 budget.

Now that it knows paramedic program funding has been stripped from the budget by Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele, the City of Greenfield could be forced to get creative.

Abele’s elimination of the $3 million subsidy for local paramedic programs last month means Greenfield is without $230,000 that helped supplement the costs of running a paramedic unit.

The county, however, will continue to spend $4.3 million on paramedic training and communications.

Mayor Michael Neitzke, the alderpersons and other city officials will discuss Greenfield's contract with Milwaukee County as it relates to the paramedic program and the city’s options in closed session at at .

Neitzke said one option might be to leave the county’s program and work more closely with neighbors such as Greendale and Hales Corners.
