How Will Southridge Development Impact Greenfield?

The city is looking at ways to improve area north of the mall.

With the likes of and Applebee's and other businesses, the City of Greenfield is pretty well established just north of Southridge Mall.

But with the mall's owners, Simon Property Group Inc., at which many expect Simon to announce Macy's as a major anchor tenant, Greenfield city officials are looking into ways to capitalize on the mall's changes.

According to the Greenfield NOW, the city has requested the consultation of Graef USA, which has suggested the city redevelop along Edgerton Avenue, the east-west street north of Southridge.

Graef's suggestion is to make Edgerton a more pedestrian-friendly "urban" corridor, something Greenfield desperately lacks.Β 

In related news, the Greenfield Common Council in the Sears Auto Center, 5200 S. 76th St., in April largely because many council members were concerned it would not maximize the potential of the area in conjunction with the mall's development plans.
