Ice Center Grand Opening Followed by Packers-Viewing Party

Former Packers great Gilbert Brown is the special guest of Whitnall Middle School teacher Mike Seavert, who is hosting the Packers party Dec. 15.

The Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool will open the the first phase of the Alyson Dudek International Ice Center to the public Sunday, Dec. 15.

The ice rink will be located in Hales Corners Park near the basketball courts and Veterans Memorial and next to the Hales Corners Pool.

People of all ages will be able to enjoy free, outdoor ice skating on the 64-foot by 88-foot ice rink. The rink will eventually be a permanent winter venue in the Village of Hales Corners, and will honor its hometown hero Alyson Dudek. Dudek and her teammates won the Bronze medal in short track speed skating at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. She is currently on the U.S. World Cup Team and is working towards qualifying for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The Alyson Dudek International Ice Center is a public-private partnership between the Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool, Milwaukee County Parks Dept., Village of Hales Corners, and private businesses. Phase II of the ice center includes an outdoor picnic pavilion with restrooms and is planned to open in 2014.

"It is so exciting to see our vision become a reality for the park," says Don Schwartz, president of the Friends of Hales Corners Park & Pool and chair of the Alyson Dudek International Ice Center Committee. "We thank the community and local businesses for their generous donations and all of the partners who have been diligently working together for the last 24 months to make this happen."

Following the grand opening will be a Green Bay Packers viewing party hosted by Whitnall Middle School teacher Mike Seavert at the Hales Corners Pool Clubhouse. There will be pregame music by DownFall, the Packers and Cowboys game on large scree HDTVs, food, drinks and a silent auction. In addition, former Packers great Gilbert Brown will be a guest speaker at halftime and give an anti-bullying presentation before signing autographs.

Admission is free.
