Illinois Woman Dies in Freak Accident on I-94 in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE, WI — An 89-year-old Illinois woman is dead after a freak accident on I-94 late Sunday night.

On Sunday, January 29, just after 8:00 p.m., Milwaukee County sheriffs deputies responded to a crash on I-94 southbound at W. Edgerton Avenue. A Chevy Malibu had crashed into the right guard wall, and all three occupants required medical attention, according to sheriff's officials.

Officials are reporting that one of the passengers, Frankie Johnson, age 89, of Bellwood, Illinois, was transported to Froedtert Hospital where she was pronounced dead at 2:25 a.m. The other two injured subjects were in stable condition.

According to the sheriff's report, the driver indicated that the driver’s side rear tire blew, causing her to lose control of the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting the crash investigation.
