Johnson Promoted To Greenfield Police Chief

GREENFIELD, WI -- Longtime Greenfield Police Officer and Captain Jay Johnson has been named the next Police Chief for the City of Greenfield.

Johnson was unanimously appointed to the post on April 4 by city officials on the Police and Fire Commission.

"We had four well-qualified candidates from within the department," Patsy Cashmore, Commission Chair said in a statement. "All of them had exceptional qualifications. We unanimously voted to appoint Captain Johnson and we firmly believe he will make an excellent chief."

Former chief Bradley Wentlandt retired from the position in Dec. 2018.

City officials say Johnson has served with the Greenfield Police Department since March 1992. He was promoted to Police Sergeant in Oct. 2001, earned the rank of Lieutenant in Feb. 2008, and was promoted to Captain in Jan. 2012.
