Everyone loves fresh flowers, but they have a shorter shelf life after being cut from the plant.
So how, can you prolong the life of your fresh flowers?
Here at Kathy's 2nd Chance Plants, LLC, we have never really liked those little packets that come with fresh flowers.
But, I do carry them as some of my customers swear by them.
I like to use a more natural method. I mix 2 T. sugar with 2 T. apple cider vinegar in a small bowl. Then I fill a vase 1/2 full with cool water and add the vinegar mixture. (Apple cider is rich in potassium and helps the flowers to last longer.) I empty the water every two to three days.
Then I start over again, remaking the mixture and also cutting the flower stems on an angle with a sharp knife about 1/2 an inch off the bottom. This type of cut assists the flowers in taking up more of the mixture.
Remember to rinse out the vase well, as not to concentrate the mixture.
